WHAT HAPPENED TO THE 1989 EPA BAN?
In 1989, the EPA issued a final rule under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) banning most asbestos-containing products.

In 1991, the U.S. Court of Appeals overturned most of that rule.

Only the following remain banned:

Corrugated paper
-
Rollboard
-
Commercial paper
-
Specialty paper
-
Flooring felt
-
Any new uses of asbestos after 1989
All other existing uses were permitted to remain in commerce.
